Elijah has been an online sports writer for over seven years. He has watched and played soccer for his entire life.

Every season there is a tight, unpredictable race for not only the Premier League title, but for the golden boot as well. There are the usual candidates, top players from the top clubs, and then there always seems to be outsiders that creep their way up the scoring charts. It’s incredibly difficult to predict, but who will be the top scorers in the league this season?

My Predictions for Top Scorers in the Premier League

5. Alvaro Morata

4. Sadio Mane

3. Mohamed Salah

2. Harry Kane

1. Sergio Aguero

5th: Alvaro Morata

This is a particularly risky choice. Morata had, by no means, a great season last year and who knows how Chelsea will adapt to Sarri’s style of football? However, based on what I’ve seen of Morata over the past few seasons, I believe he could have a groundbreaking season this year at Chelsea. He scored a wonderful goal against Arsenal at the weekend and he had a great performance, one that he can use to gain confidence going forward. Also, based on the evidence so far, it looks like Chelsea won’t have too much of a problem adapting to the new system that Sarri is trying to implement. Overall, I think Morata will surprise a few fans and have a good season for the Blues.

4th: Sadio Mane

In my opinion, Mane is Liverpool’s best, most important player. Even after being forced to play in the left-wing position due to the introduction of Mohamed Salah, he proceeded to contribute and have a great season last year. He scores as well as creates, he is extremely unselfish and team oriented, and, when he needs to, he can completely destroy an opponent without breaking a sweat. Mane has had a great start to this campaign, scoring 3 goals in his first 2 appearances, and really looking like Liverpool’s main player in the final third. The way that Liverpool play perfectly fits Mane’s style and I see him getting upwards of 20 goals for Liverpool this season, in the Premier League alone.

3rd: Mohamed Salah

Now, I know I said that Mane is Liverpool’s best player, but a team’s best player doesn’t always score the most goals. Salah is, most likely, going to be Liverpool’s top scorer for the second season in a row. Cutting in from the right, he is extremely effective, Liverpool’s front line relies on the Egyptian to put away many of the chances that the team creates. He might not always score the nicest goals but, much like Harry Kane, he always seems to be in the right place at the right time. He has a knack of scoring for this Liverpool side and expect that to continue through this campaign.

2nd: Harry Kane

A goalscoring machine, Harry Kane has been crucial to the Tottenham side over the past few seasons. Without the Englishman, Spurs would almost certainly not have finished as high on the table as they have over the past four years. As seen when Kane is unavailable, Tottenham struggle to score goals without Kane leading the line, he creates as well as scores for his team. There was much speculation in the summer about a possible move for Kane, as Real Madrid were reportedly looking for a new striker to bolster their side. However, much like the past few transfer windows, Kane decided to stay with his beloved Spurs. If Tottenham were to fail to win a trophy this season you might see some of their main players leave, but it looks like Kane legitimately wants to become one of the greatest strikers in the history of the Premier League. He’ll most certainly have one eye on Shearer’s record of 260 goals in the competition and feel that, if he stays in the league, he could possibly reach that tally. Kane has been amongst the top scorers in the league for several seasons now, and you can expect him to be in the mix yet again.

1st: Sergio Aguero

This is a controversial call. Sergio Aguero has only ever won the golden boot one time and, being 30, his injury issues will most likely not get better anytime soon. However, provided he stays fit for City most of the season, I am tipping him to win the golden boot. City have no signs of slowing down from last season’s record-breaking title, they look just as threatening, if not more so, this season. Expect them to score ridiculous amounts of goals, with Aguero claiming a large chunk of them. Alan Shearer recently claimed, after Aguero’s hat-trick against Huddersfield, that the Argentine is the greatest foreign player to grace the Premier League. While I may not agree with Shearer’s over-the-top statement, there is some truth in that Aguero has consistently performed during his time in the league. Expect goals from Manchester City’s main man this season.
