On January 23, 2023, Armando Bacot made North Carolina basketball history by becoming the all-time leading rebounder in the program's storied history. During a game against Duke, Bacot set two school records: most career rebounds (1,221) and most career double-doubles (61). In doing so, Bacot broke Tyler Hansbrough's record of 1,219 rebounds and Billy Cunningham's record of 60 double-doubles. This marks a significant achievement for Bacot and the Tar Heels program. Tyler Hansbrough, the previous record holder, attended the game and postgame ceremony to congratulate Bacot on his accomplishment. In a video, Hansbrough praised Bacot as "one of the best players in Carolina history."
The moment was a special one for both players as Bacot passed the torch to the next great Tar Heels rebounder. The postgame ceremony was captured on a TikTok video that shows the two of them taking pictures together, with Hansbrough hugging Bacot and congratulating him on breaking his record. The video also shows the crowd cheering and celebrating Bacot's accomplishment.
