5 Facts About WWE Superstar Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks, nicknamed "The Legit Boss," has taken the WWE Universe by storm with her amazing talent. She has shown both in and out of the ring that she is one of the top performers of her generation. Starting in the NXT brand as an arrogant villain and winning the NXT Women's Championship, she has since gone all the way to the main roster on Raw and has become a three-time WWE Raw Women's Champion.
Her ring skills are unique, and her talents have made her a member of the Four Horsewomen (other members include Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Bayley). They have helped boost the women's revolution in the WWE and even in other companies in the industry. There is no doubt that we will be looking back at the history and impact Sasha and the other Four Horsewomen have left in the business.
1. Her Famous Cousin
Many fans may already be aware of this particular fact. WWE Hall of Famer (under the celebrity wing) and famous rapper and actor Snoop Dogg is actually Sasha's first cousin. The two were seen together recently at Wrestlemania 32 in 2016 when Snoop accompanied Sasha down to the ring for her Wrestlemania entrance.
Sasha's father is actually the uncle of Snoop Dogg. Sasha and Snoop have been very close with each other for a long time. At WrestleMania XXIV, she apparently begged her cousin, who was set to make a special appearance on the show, if she could be backstage with him at the event. Sasha was only 16 at the time.
2. Eddie Guerrero Is Her Idol
Many fans have been touched by the career of Eddie Guerrero. The late great hall of famer had amazing charisma and in-ring talent. He dazzled fans back then and still does to this very day. On an appearance on Chris Jericho's podcast, Sasha stated that she wanted to become the female Eddie Guerrero. Many fans may have seen glimpses of Eddie in her during her Wrestlemania 32 entrance. She was wearing tights that were designed after Eddie's own attire. She did his signature shoulder shimmy and even performed his frog splash move.
Sasha was actually in attendance for the Eddie Guerrero memorial show in November of 2005. The heartbreaking fact about her attendance was that the 13-year-old did not know Eddie had passed away. When she got to the arena and saw hundreds of signs reading RIP Eddie, she assumed that he was going to be fighting The Undertaker. He tragically died due to heart failure, leaving fans traumatized and deeply saddened as he was a trailblazer in the business. Sasha never got to meet her idol, but she continues to pay tribute to him.
3. Making History
Sasha was a part of history in 2015 when she and Bayley became the first women to main event a major NXT pay-per-view. The match was for the NXT Women's Championship. It was also the first time women in NXT worked a gimmick match, in this case, an ironman match. Their bout was recognized by many critics and journalists as one of the best matches of 2015. Another one of their matches was also recently ranked by WWE as one of the top 100 matches of all time. This is a very big accomplishment for an NXT match.
Rolling Stone referred to their match at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn as the Match Of The Year. Her feud with Bayley was awarded Feud Of The Year. Pro Wrestling Illustrated also awarded the Brooklyn match as their Match of The Year. Sasha received their Woman Of The Year award.
4. Her Training
Sasha is a relatively young talent. She is only 27 years old and has been in WWE for 7 years. She started her training in 2008 at Chaotic Wrestling in Massachusetts. Her original ring name was Mercedes KV, which was based on her real name, Mercedes Kaestner-Varnado. Sasha won a competition held by Chaotic Wrestling and received a full scholarship to train there. She was the only woman in the training centre. Stars like John Cena and Kofi Kingston have also been enrolled in the same training centre. Her trainers included Brian Milonas, Brian Fury, and Handsome Johnny. She would become a one-time Chaotic Wrestling Women's Champion, a one-time IWE Women's Champion, and a one-time RWC No Limitz Champion.
Yes, it's that time where I have to give the unfortunate news that Sasha Banks is already taken. She is engaged to Sarath Ton, who is actually employed by WWE as a tailor and costume designer for the attires of several WWE wrestlers. He was also a professional wrestler with the ring name of Kid Mikaze; he was well-known for his wrestling attire which he made himself. He designs all of the gear you see Sasha wear to the ring.
She told the Miami Herald in an interview that she just lets him do what he envisions. He seems to know exactly what she wants. In an interview on Unfiltered with Renee Young, she said that she and Sarath have rap battles at home; he is quite good, so he typically wins.
These were your five facts about Sasha Banks. She has truly shown that women can be just as good and even better than men with her amazing charisma and in-ring skills. The proof is in her historic matches with the likes of Charlotte Flair and Bayley. There is no doubt that Sasha and her friends in the Four Horsewomen are on their way to being first ballot hall of famers.
